V project

V Project (a collaborative project by eight women artists)
work in progress…

I invited women artists from different countries (Italy, Turkey, Russia, Georgia, Finland, and the Netherlands) to come together and create a project exploring the female body and our relationship with it. Once all the textile pieces arrive, I will bring them together into a single work. Perhaps then the project’s overall concept will take a more definite shape. For now, here are the first works, along with notes from one of our group conversations:

Each of us will have our own shade.

Getting to know our own bodies.

As a mother of a daughter, I’m especially happy about this project.

Could knowing and naming our sexual organs help protect us from violence?

The subject, unfortunately — or perhaps fortunately — is far from exhausted.

Women discovering their own bodies through bodily experience.

How can we stop feeling alienated from our own organs?

It’s about trust, about being open to the world and to ourselves.

Seeing beauty in our own bodies.

There is a kind of collective female reflection in this.

I want to make something on the level of sensation, to feel the body.

It’s interesting to make it, and separately, it’s interesting to put it out there — into the world.

Be concerned — this is a female body!

We’ll start with the vulva, but maybe later we can assemble an entire woman.

We are together.

I want there to be beauty!
